Frequently Asked Questions and Answers Regarding Counsel Subscriptions

A bunch of urgent work has piled up. Should I start with a higher tier to catch up?

Starting with a higher tier for immediate large-scale needs isn’t recommended. This approach can make both costs and time commitments unpredictable. Instead, begin with a plan that suits your regular operations and let us handle any one-time substantial work separately. Especially for new subscribers, we will work with you to provide a quote that maintains both predictability and affordability.

What happens if I need legal services that are not included in my subscription plan?

Extra services and services not included are billed weekly in arrears. You will receive the lowest applicable rates (Exhibit B in our engagement letters; our ‘Fee Schedule’ page online) and, two weeks later, we will charge your stored payment method.

I did not see any retainer or deposit payment instructions. How do I get started?

We don’t require deposits. Instead, we require you to keep an electronic method of payment on file and to authorize recurring monthly payments for your subscription. After you e-sign your Agreement, we will email you a link to securely provide your payment information.

Can I receive the appreciation discount by signing a two-year contract?

We appreciate your enthusiasm! However, our model prioritizes maximum flexibility, so we don’t offer fixed-term contracts. Our appreciation discounts are designed to reflect our growing efficiency as we familiarize ourselves with your needs over time, allowing us to pass on savings to you as they accrue.

Can I change my subscription level if my needs increase or decrease?

Absolutely! We understand that your legal needs may evolve over time. You can upgrade or downgrade your subscription tier as needed and at any time. Changes will be prorated as of your effective date based on your historic usage and days remaining in the month.

How are unused hours or services handled? Do they roll over to the next month?

Subscription services are crafted to cover typical monthly legal needs; however, we do allow you to roll over up to two months’ worth of your Soft Cap time. Please note, though, that we may need additional time to deliver services for large rollover balance uses.

Is there a minimum commitment period for your subscription service?

Our subscriptions are designed to be flexible. While there is no minimum commitment period, we find that clients get the most value from a subscription when they engage with us for at least a few months to allow for thorough handling of their ongoing legal needs.

I don’t like automated billing. Can’t you just invoice me, and I’ll pay by check?

We understand preferences vary. We require automated billing to maintain efficiency and competitive rates. This method is secure and convenient, allowing you to manage payments via credit card—including benefits like chargebacks and reward points. We also pay all the transaction fees to make.

Why do you limit your availability and the contacts who can speak with you?

Our availability and communication channels are structured to maximize efficiency and ensure high-quality service. By streamlining interactions, we can focus more on delivering top-tier legal advice and services. Subscription tiers are structured to reflect the complexity and demands of your legal needs, with higher tiers providing broader access as required.

What are the steps to cancel my subscription if I decide to end the service?

You can cancel your subscription anytime. Just email us. If it’s your only active engagement and you want to remain a client, let us know in your email, and we’ll discuss alternative structures.
